Snow Hill is located on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Delaware / Maryland, Virginia Peninsula (Delmarva)
The Delmarva Peninsula is occupied by Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia (hence its name). It separates the Chesapeake Bay from the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The west coast is jagged and marshy while the east coast is regular with sandy beaches. Fishing, raising poultry, truck farming, and tourism are the main industries. Dover, Delaware, and Salisbury, Maryland, are the largest communities on the peninsula.

Corporate Limits
When Worcester County was separated from Somerset County in 1742, Snow Hill became the county seat. The Courthouse and county office buildings are located there. Snow Hill is also the home to the County’s Main Library. Agriculture, service companies, timber, and tourism are prominent in the local economy. The Pocomoke River plays an important role in shaping the life of the town.

Arts and Entertainment District
Snow Hill’s Arts on the River is one of Maryland’s designated Arts and Entertainment Districts, created to provide incentives for artists and art enterprises to locate in a revitalizing community. The district provides a concentration of art galleries, artist studios, performing arts and teaching space in the downtown business district. The designated area encompasses 86 acres which also include residential neighborhoods with housing opportunities for artists to live and work in a creative community. From February through December Arts on the River celebrates First Fridays with gallery walks at no charge to residents and visitors.

Historic District
Snow Hill dates back more than 300 years, was once a Royal Port of Entry, and has served as the Worcester County seat since 1742. Remnants of the residential area can be traced back to the 18th century. To help preserve this history, the Snow Hill Historic District, which includes approximately 80% of the town, was created in 2002. The district has 4 goals: Preserve structures, sites, and neighborhoods, together with their appurtenances and environmental settings, of historic and architectural significance. Enhance the quality of life and to safeguard the historical and cultural heritage of Snow Hill by preserving these sites and structures. Strengthen the local economy and to stabilize and improve property values of such sites and structures. Foster civic beauty and to promote the appreciation of such sites and structures for the education and welfare of the residents of Snow Hill and Worcester County. Projects involving structures in the Historic District require a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Commission before beginning. (The Historic District map and ordinance is on file in the Town offices and may be examined there during regular office hours.)
